Congratulations to Dr. Caprice Niccoli, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Minnesota, for receiving the CLA Career Readiness Teaching Award.
Dr. Niccoli is the director of the Capstone in Psychology course. To meet their degree requirements, Psychology BA and BS students must sign up for one of three capstone experiences: working as an undergraduate research assistant in a laboratory, engaging in a community organization such as a health clinic or food shelter, or designing a project of their own. An important component of Psychology’s capstone course is career preparation. Students hear from alumni professionals across many career areas, from Psychology faculty about careers in research and counseling, and from Psychology graduate students about their preparation and training. They also have the opportunity to learn from CLA-Career Advising, Psychology Advising, and UMN Human Resources about preparing for job and graduate school applications and interviews. These opportunities to learn from professionals, as well as coursework that encourages reflection and active preparation, are designed to support our seniors as they transition to the next step in their professional journeys.
This award is given to an instructor in recognition of their demonstrated leadership in the Career Readiness initiative and comes with $2,500 in professional development funds.
We appreciate all Caprice does for the department!
