Locher on Reviewing University Administrative Policy

Headshot of Holley Locher
Last May, President Joan Gabel requested that every University administrative policy be reviewed under a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens. A Minnesota Daily article titled, “Committee uses equity lens to review every University administrative policy,” discusses how the University has 200 administrative policies that span topics from final exams to access to buildings. These policies are set to be reviewed every four years. However, because the Equity Lens Policy Review Committee was just formed in May of 2018, not all policies have been reviewed yet by this committee. Holley Locher, Chief of Staff in the University of Minnesota’s Department of Psychology, and member of the committee feels that this is one of the highest stakes and broadly impactful projects she has taken on. While this project has been a large workload, with members having to review 10 to 15 policies monthly, members feel that they are working to help make the University a better and more inclusive place.
