Dirks and O’Neill Receive Their Doctorate

Two APC Lab doctoral students, Coral Dirks and Erin O'Neill graduated.

Coral Dirks graduated with the defense of her thesis, “Using binaural beat sensitivity to describe mechanisms that may enhance binaural interactions in single-sided-deafness cochlear-implant patients.”  Coral is currently a research audiologist at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center; employed as a contractor through the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.

In June, Erin O’Neill graduated with the defense of her thesis, “Understanding factors contributing to variability in outcomes of cochlear-implant users.”  Erin is now a postdoctoral associate in CATSS working under Dr. Peggy Nelson. In her new position, Erin is researching ways to make clinical testing of hearing aid devices more realistic to improve device fitting and outcomes in patients. She is also coordinating the NRT graduate training group of graduate students interested in translational sensory science research and across-discipline collaborations.
