12th Annual Equity and Diversity Breakfast was held on Monday, November 4, 2019, at the McNamara Center. At this breakfast University faculty, staff, and students are recognized for their commitment to equity and diversity. The Department of Psychology congratulates its four awardees and is proud of their contribution to these important issues.

Richard Lee, PhD, professor in psychology is a recipient of the
Josie R. Johnson Human Rights and Social Justice Award. This award honors University faculty, staff, and students who create respectful and inclusive living, learning, and working environments through their principles and practices.
In addition, three psychology students received Scholarly Excellence in Equity and Diversity (SEED) awards: Graduate student
Umul Kiram Kathawalla and undergraduate students
Emame Thompson-Eja and
Destiny J. Weaver.

At the breakfast, SEED recipient and psychology undergraduate peer adviser Thompson-Eja talked passionately about her experience and actions facing minority issues. Her call for "
Representation Matters" resonated with the audience and gave her standing ovations.
